Description
The Catalyst Award, administered by the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education, supports research through the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) National Database Institutionally Funded & Analyzed Participant User File (PUF) program. It covers the cost of accessing data files for cardiothoracic surgery projects, rather than providing broad support for research expenses.
The PUF program enables investigators to analyze national-scale, de-identified STS National Database data at their own institutions and develop their work into an abstract and manuscript. Its priorities include facilitating research by Database participants, ensuring high-quality research output, and protecting participant confidentiality and patient privacy. The award is available to qualifying cardiothoracic surgeons and other researchers with cardiothoracic surgery-focused projects that have already secured PUF approval.
