Cátedra SLAS is a partnership between the Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS) and the Instituto de Iberoamérica at the Universidad de Salamanca. It supports a UK-based scholar to deliver an eight-hour, master's-level course worth one ECTS credit over one week, usually Monday to Thursday, in either semester. The scheme aims to foster collaboration between the institute and the UK.
Courses may address any aspect of Latin American Studies. Preference may be given to cultural studies, anthropology, international relations, development studies and gender studies. Teaching is in Spanish and should ideally consist mainly of discussion-focused seminars, with readings assigned in advance. The visiting scholar sets and marks a 1,500-word essay assessment. Bursaries cover expenses associated with the visit rather than providing a salary.
