The Catholic Biblical Association of America (CBA) funds an annual visiting professorship at the Pontifical Biblical Institute (PBI) in Rome. Reestablished in 2021, the program supports one semester of teaching and scholarly engagement. Visiting professors teach one course to an international cohort at a level equivalent to U.S. doctoral coursework, offer a public lecture on their research, interact with PBI faculty, and use the institute’s library resources.
The appointment connects the visiting professor’s research with PBI’s curricular needs and international teaching environment. Selection considers the proposed course’s fit with both the scholar’s research and the institute’s teaching needs, as well as the contribution the scholar’s research would make to the PBI community. Teaching areas for the 2028–29 academic year are to be announced.
