Summary: Supports individual scholars pursuing research that contributes to biblical studies and the purposes of the Catholic Biblical Association of America.
Key Information: Applicants must be current CBA Full Members; group projects are ineligible.
Established in 2024, the Catholic Biblical Association of America’s Sabbatical Fellowship supports individual research relevant to the association’s purposes. Eligible work includes books, monographs, peer-reviewed articles, digital collections, and translations with annotations or a critical apparatus. Projects developing dissertations into publications must move substantially beyond the original dissertation rather than offer revision alone.
The fellowship emphasizes a project’s contribution to biblical studies and the CBA, its place within broader academic discussions, and the views it advances or challenges. The CBA Committee on Professional Development Support evaluates applications on merit. Publication and dissemination are part of the research goals, and recipients are expected to share supported research at the association’s Annual General Meeting within two years.
