Description
The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) administers this federally funded Community Development Block Grant opportunity for local-government revitalization projects. It addresses needs such as deteriorating sidewalks and streetscapes, blighted commercial buildings, historic structures, and closed buildings that could be put to another use.
Eligible activities are sidewalk improvements, demolition of qualifying commercial buildings, exterior rehabilitation of commercial buildings, non-residential historic preservation, and renovation or conversion of a closed building. Each project must meet a CDBG national objective: benefit low- to moderate-income people, prevent or eliminate slums and blight, or address an urgent community development need posing a serious and immediate threat to health and welfare.
