Description
The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) administers the CDBG Urgent Need Fund to help eligible localities respond promptly to existing, serious and immediate threats to community health and safety. Funding must directly alleviate the threatening conditions when the locality cannot finance the response itself and no other funding is available.
Projects generally consist of activities supporting long-term recovery and primarily benefiting people with low or moderate incomes. The fund is part of Virginia’s Community Development Block Grant program, which receives funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Local governments may contract with Planning District Commissions, nonprofits and other competent entities to carry out project activities.
