Description
The CEIRR Pilot Research Program connects investigators outside the CEIRR Network with its existing Centers to pursue innovative research addressing unmet Center needs. Funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the program supports concepts aligned with NIAID’s mission and Universal Influenza Strategic Plan for pandemic preparedness. Its goals include reducing influenza illness and death, advancing broadly protective and universal vaccines, and enabling rapid responses to pandemic threats.
Research emphasizes influenza in humans and at human-animal interfaces. Relevant work includes infection, transmission, evolution, pathogenesis, vaccination, immune protection, and the influence of prior exposures on responses to new strains. Approaches include human cohorts, animal studies, surveillance, assay development, and computational modeling.
