This award recognizes mid-career literacy leaders who are members of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and have demonstrated innovative leadership resulting in systemic impact at the local, regional, and/or national levels. The focus is on creative, progressive approaches to literacy leadership—such as developing new methods, models, or programs—that have influenced educational systems or programs beyond a single classroom. The award specifically honors leaders whose primary professional roles are outside of direct classroom teaching.
