Description
The American Mathematical Society’s Centennial Fellowship is an annual award helping an outstanding mathematician further their research career. Work in all areas of mathematics, including interdisciplinary research, is eligible. The primary selection criterion is research excellence, with additional consideration given to how the proposed fellowship plan would make a meaningful difference in the applicant’s career development.
Support is administered through the recipient’s university or department and can fund course release, research-related travel, and research-related expenses. The program grew out of a Research Fellowship Fund established in 1973 and was renamed in 1988 to honor the AMS Centennial. Contributions sustain the fund, with AMS supplementing them as needed to ensure at least one fellowship each year.
