The Virginia A. Groot Material Exploration Residency is an eight-week visiting artist program at the Center for Craft in Asheville, North Carolina, supported by the Virginia A. Groot Foundation. Four residents receive time, space, resources, and facilitated shared learning to develop their work and explore materials outside their primary training. Each artist partners with a local craft organization, connecting with makers and resources in Western North Carolina.
The program aims to build connections between local and national craft artists, foster reciprocal relationships, and help artists rejuvenate their practices, grow their skills, and expand their networks. Alongside studio work, residents take part in regional exploration through studio, gallery, and archive visits and a Center-organized public event sharing work created during the residency.
