Description
The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) seeks to establish one Center of Excellence for AI-Enhanced Educator Preparation through its competitive Centers of Excellence for Teacher Education program. Funded through the South Carolina Education Improvement Act of 1984, the program supports resource centers that improve teacher education, particularly for rural and underperforming schools and districts.
The center will develop, implement, and evaluate an AI-enhanced clinical practice model for pre-service teachers. Its work should strengthen instructional decision-making, reflection, and self-assessment while enabling individualized feedback and coaching guided by university supervisors and PK–12 mentor teachers. Expected outcomes include evidence-based guidance on ethical AI use, professional judgment, assessment, student data privacy, and instructional planning.
