    Description

This renewal of the CAPSTONE Centers for Child Maltreatment Research initiative focuses on child sexual abuse (CSA), a preventable but understudied public health problem with serious lifelong consequences. Administered by NIH’s Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the initiative aims to overcome practical, ethical, and methodological challenges in CSA research and address critical research gaps.

Through the multicomponent, collaborative P50 mechanism, the centers will create national resources supporting innovative, high-quality research. Supported work includes intervention efficacy and effectiveness studies, longitudinal studies of CSA-related chronic disease outcomes, research on biological embedding and its health implications, and projects strengthening CSA data infrastructure. The emphasis is on prevention and translation that demonstrate measurable public health impact, rather than solely identifying general risk factors and etiology.
