Description
The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) offers this competitive opportunity through its FY 2026–27 Centers of Excellence for Teacher Education program, funded by the South Carolina Education Improvement Act of 1984. The program supports resource centers that develop and model teaching practices, conduct research, disseminate information, and train P–12 and higher education personnel, concentrating on rural and underperforming schools and districts.
Math Education centers will equip pre-service teachers to integrate higher-order thinking and mathematical reasoning into Grades 1–5 instruction while providing structured tutoring for students needing additional academic support. The work supports implementation of the 2025 South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Mathematics Standards. Proposals incorporating the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) instructional approach receive priority.
