The Centers of Excellence Research Grants Program is administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury under the RESTORE Act. It uses Gulf Coast Restoration Trust Fund resources to establish one or more Centers of Excellence through competitive subawards to nongovernmental entities and consortia in the Gulf Coast region, including institutions of higher education.
Funding supports the establishment of these centers and their science, technology, and monitoring activities. The program covers coastal and deltaic sustainability, fisheries and wildlife ecosystems, safe and sustainable offshore energy development, resilient economic growth, and comprehensive observation of the Gulf of Mexico. It is one component of the RESTORE Act’s broader effort to restore and protect the region’s environment and economy following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
