Description
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) awards Certified Local Government (CLG) grants through a competitive process funded by the federal Historic Preservation Fund. Ten percent of the fund’s allocation to Virginia is set aside for CLGs. The grants help designated local governments identify, document, plan for, and protect historic resources while strengthening local preservation programs.
Supported work includes architectural and archaeological surveys, National Register nominations, preservation planning, design guidelines, public education, review board training, and eligible rehabilitation. Funding may also cover staff and review board members’ attendance at the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions’ FORUM.
