Certified Local Government Grants support Wisconsin certified local governments in surveying, documenting, planning for, and teaching about historic places to strengthen their protection.

Description
The Wisconsin Historical Society’s State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) runs this annual competitive subgrant program with federal Historic Preservation Fund resources managed by the National Park Service and the U.S. Department of the Interior. Projects must benefit historic or archaeological resources in Wisconsin by identifying, documenting, or supporting the protection of historic places.
Eligible work includes community and neighborhood surveys; National Register or local landmark nominations; public education using historic places to teach local history; historic preservation plans and design guidelines; and Commission Assistance and Mentoring Program (CAMP) training hosted with the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions. Educational formats can include workshops, apps, webinars, publications, and other public programs. Rehabilitation, repair, and restoration work is not eligible.
