The Champions of the Environment program supports environmental education projects at South Carolina K–12 schools. It is sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, Dominion Energy, and Sylvamo, with assistance from the Environmental Education Association of South Carolina. Projects can address cleaner air or water, healthier soil, wildlife habitat, water or energy efficiency, and resource conservation.
The program connects hands-on environmental work with lasting benefits and education beyond the project itself. Students should have defined roles in designing, carrying out, and maintaining the work, as well as sharing what they learn with their school and community. Applicants are encouraged to work with environmental programs and community organizations for expertise, resources, or donations.
