--- ## Description This program supports projects that increase tree cover in both urban and rural areas of Charles County, Maryland. The goal is to improve forest habitat, water quality, and provide natural cooling in urban environments, thereby benefitting both human and ecological communities within the county’s watersheds. Funding is available for a wide range of tree planting activities, including site preparation, planting, community engagement, and two years of maintenance. --- ## Due Dates - Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; there is no fixed deadline. - Program status: OPEN --- ## Funding Amount - Typical awards are less than $20,000 per project. - For large land tracts: approximately $4,500 per acre. - For urban plantings: $100–$600 per tree (includes trees, supplies, labor, and maintenance). - Match is encouraged but not required. --- ## Eligibility - **Eligible Applicants:** - Individuals - Nonprofit organizations (including 501(c)(3) groups, watershed groups, community associations, faith-based organizations, public agencies, Soil/Water Conservation Districts) - Public and private educational institutions - Businesses, contractors, and consultant firms - Commercial and community landowners - **Project Sites:** - Individual private, commercial private, community-owned, school, and nonprofit-owned properties in Charles County, MD. - Projects on federal or state land are **not eligible**. - **Key Requirement:** - All funded plantings require a [Long-term Protective Agreement for Tree Planting](https://www.charlescountymd.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/26405/6386227347) and a Preliminary Title Report, to be submitted to the Charles County Planning Division before funds are released. - If the property is owned by an entity, documentation of signing authority and good standing with the State of Maryland is required ([check standing here](https://egov.maryland.gov/BusinessExpress/EntitySearch/Search)). --- ## Application Process - Review the [Request for Proposals (RFP)](https://cbtrust.org/wp-content/uploads/NEW_Charles-County-Tree-Planting_RFP_Oct-2024.pdf) for full program details. - Start a new application via the [Chesapeake Bay Trust online portal](https://www.grantrequest.com/SID_1520?SA=SNA&FID=35207). - Applicants who are landowners but cannot serve as project managers may submit ideas; the Trust can coordinate with Charles County or relevant contractors for project implementation. - For technical support or questions, contact the Program Officer (see below). --- ## Additional Information - Eligible costs include site preparation, plant material, planting, educational signage (with required logos), community engagement and education, collaboration with local organizations, two-year maintenance, title report, and project management (for nonprofits). - Projects must include educational or community engagement components. - Office Hours: Every Thursday until February 27, 2025, from 3:00–4:00 pm.
