Description
The Charles D. Gonthier Research Fellowship is provided annually by the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (CIAJ) and listed by UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Created in 2001, it honours the late Supreme Court of Canada Justice Charles D. Gonthier, a former CIAJ president. The fellowship supports innovative research on a fundamental issue connected to the Institute’s annual conference theme.
The 2026 edition focuses on “Reimagining Law and Justice Through Restorative Approaches.” The program connects research with a national discussion involving researchers, judges, lawyers, decision-makers, and civil society. Completed research is expected to be presented at the annual conference and published with its proceedings; recipients are also encouraged to pursue publication in a reputable scholarly publication.
