The Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (APA Division 29) offers this annual grant to support empirical research on psychotherapy process and/or outcome. The program aims to advance understanding of psychotherapy, encourage talented graduate students toward careers in psychotherapy research, and support psychologists conducting quality research. It serves graduate students, predoctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral-level researchers, including early career psychologists.
Research may be at any stage. Funding can initiate a new project or supplement work already underway, such as adding a study component or additional participants, with justification for the request. Selection emphasizes the quality of proposed work and its incremental contribution to the topic. Priority is given to projects that can be completed within two years.
