The American Psychological Foundation’s Charles L. Brewer Distinguished Teaching of Psychology Award honors a psychologist with a significant career of contributions to teaching and a proven record as an exceptional psychology teacher. Rather than funding a proposed research project, it recognizes sustained achievement in classroom instruction, innovative curricula and courses, and effective teaching methods and materials.
The award also recognizes contributions to teaching advanced research methods and practices, research on teaching, and the training of psychology teachers. Its scope extends beyond direct instruction to administrative facilitation of teaching and influence on students who become psychologists. The recipient receives a plaque, a cash award, and a travel stipend, and is invited to give a special address at the APA Annual Convention.
