Description
The Charlotte Cushman Fellowship, administered by the American Antiquarian Society (AAS), supports doctoral candidates and postdoctoral scholars pursuing research in Queer Studies in American history and culture through 1900. It is part of the Society’s one- to two-month residential academic research fellowship program, which provides time for research and writing using the AAS library’s resources in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The fellowship connects queer historical inquiry with the Society’s collections of early American materials. Projects are assessed for their scholarly significance and their appropriateness to those collections, alongside the applicant’s scholarly qualifications. A listed 2026–27 project examines unmarried women, sexual knowledge, and female mentorship in the eighteenth-century Anglo-Atlantic.
