Summary: Supports emerging ensemble singers through an intensive a cappella vocal chamber music residency with Chanticleer.
Key Information: Participants must attend the entire program; variable participation dates are not accepted.
Choral Art is a nine-day intensive residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity for pre-professional ensemble singers. Twelve participants study, rehearse, and perform alongside members of Chanticleer, exploring repertoire from Renaissance polyphony to popular arrangements and contemporary commissions. Additional faculty include soprano Andrea Haines and composer Sarah Quartel.
Workshops develop vocal blend, individual expression, score preparation, sight singing, and performance without a conductor. The program also explores freelance singing, managing a vocal chamber ensemble, mindfulness, healthy vocal practices, and self-guided artistic development. Participants engage with creating and performing new work, including a commission by Quartel. The residency culminates in a three-day Choral Art Festival, joining an additional 40 singers for concerts, workshops, and artistic exchange.
