--- ## Description The Chrétien International Research Grants, administered by the American Astronomical Society (AAS), are designed to foster international collaboration in observational astronomy. Awards are made based on research quality, significance to international astronomy, applicant capability, and budget justification. --- ## Due Dates - April 1, 2026: Annual application deadline (applications and all supporting materials due) All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates. --- ## Funding Amount - Up to $20,000 (USD) is available each year. - Funds may be awarded to one or more individuals or groups. - No institutional overhead is included; awards are paid directly to Principal Investigators. --- ## Eligibility - Open to astronomers worldwide with a PhD or equivalent. - Graduate students are not eligible. - Preference is given to individuals of high promise who are otherwise unfunded. - Typically not awarded to supplement major research projects funded elsewhere. --- ## Application Process Applications must be submitted electronically and should include: - A research project description (max 3 pages), including the project's significance and details of international collaboration. - Statement of the applicant’s ability to carry out the proposed research, with emphasis on arranged international collaborations and visits. - Proposed budget with brief justification. - Description of other available financial resources. - Curriculum vitae and bibliography of recent papers. - Two letters of reference from astronomers familiar with the applicant’s work (responsibility of applicant to ensure letters are received by deadline). - Any special circumstances relevant to the decision process.
