Circularity of seafood supply chain supports producers, processors, technology providers and researchers in demonstrating waste reuse and organic feed solutions for more circular fisheries and aquaculture.
Funder: European Commission
Due Dates: February 9, 2027 (Opening) | September 21, 2027, 17:00 CEST (Full application)
Funding Amounts: Expected EU contribution of €7.20–€7.725 million per project, typically over 3–4 years; €30.90 million total budget
Summary: Supports real-world demonstrations of seafood waste valorisation and sustainable organic feed solutions to improve fisheries and aquaculture circularity.
Key Information: Each proposal must address exactly one Mission basin and demonstrate solutions through at least three real-world use cases.
This Horizon Europe Innovation Action supports the European Commission’s Restore our Ocean and Waters Mission. It funds demonstrations that improve resource use, competitiveness and environmental sustainability across fisheries and aquaculture value chains. Seafood includes marine and freshwater edible organisms, including seaweeds and algae. Projects should contribute to pollution prevention and a sustainable, carbon-neutral, circular blue economy.
Proposals must address seafood waste and by-product valorisation into high-value compounds, innovative organic feed ingredients replacing fish meal and fish oil, or both. Projects should demonstrate technical feasibility, economic viability and effectiveness while reducing technological, regulatory, collaboration and market barriers to circularity. Expected results include measurable waste reduction and better reuse, alongside local jobs, business opportunities and skills. Solutions should be co-created with supply-chain stakeholders and offer potential for scaling and replication.
