Description
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) funds groups and individuals to monitor the quality of Virginia’s waters. The program supports volunteer collection of water quality data and community-based education about monitoring and the environment. Grants can support monitoring equipment, volunteer training, laboratory analysis, and stream monitoring where DEQ is not currently collecting samples.
Mini, Regular, and Coordination grants accommodate projects of different complexity. DEQ aims to strengthen a statewide network of monitoring partners whose work supplements agency monitoring, informs water quality assessment and restoration, and builds community stewardship. Regular and Coordination projects have higher quality-assurance requirements than Mini projects.
