Description
The Chesapeake Bay Trust partners with the City of Annapolis to reimburse purchases of electric leaf blowers. The program supports residents, nonprofits, landscape contractors, and lawncare businesses transitioning away from gasoline-powered equipment. It accompanies the City's gasoline-powered leaf blower prohibition, effective December 30, 2024, under Ordinance 28-23.
The program aims to improve human and environmental health by reducing community exposure to noxious fumes and noise. Gasoline-powered equipment emits carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, which may contribute to respiratory issues, cardiovascular problems, and certain cancers. Supporting quieter electric alternatives also reduces noise affecting people's ears and the local environment.
