Description
The Clean Vessel Act Grant Program supports facilities and education that reduce pollution from recreational vessel sewage discharges. Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Coastal Resources Division administers the Georgia opportunity under the federal program established by the Clean Vessel Act of 1992 and administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Funding supports construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance of pumpout stations and waste reception facilities for recreational boaters.
Eligible work also includes holding and transporting boaters’ sewage to treatment plants, coastal planning to ensure adequate and convenient pumpout access, identifying operational pumpouts, and surveying coastal vessels with holding tanks or portable toilets. Educational programs inform boaters about the use, benefits, and availability of pumpout stations and waste reception facilities.
