Description
The Clean Vessel Act program funds the construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance of pumpout stations and waste reception facilities for recreational boaters. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service administers the national program, and funding flows through the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) to participating facilities. The program aims to make pumpouts convenient to use and discourage sewage dumping in South Carolina waters.
Public or private entities that own or operate recreational boating facilities, such as marinas or docks, may seek support for vessel sewage disposal systems. Funded pumpouts must remain accessible to recreational vessels and available to the public during reasonable business hours throughout the equipment’s useful life.
