Clean Water Montgomery Grant Program supports community groups' outreach, restoration, monitoring, and litter reduction projects to improve Montgomery County waterways and engage residents in stewardship.

Funding Amounts: Up to $40,000–$100,000 by track; projects generally run up to 18 months, or 24 months for monitoring

Key Information: Applicants need current 501(c)(3) status or a fiscal sponsor; projects cannot be in Gaithersburg, Rockville, or Takoma Park.
Description
Montgomery County’s Department of Environmental Protection and the Chesapeake Bay Trust run this program to reduce stormwater runoff and pollutants while engaging residents in protecting local rivers and streams. Funding comes through the county’s Water Quality Protection Charge.
The program supports public outreach and stewardship, community-based restoration, water quality monitoring, and litter reduction in the Anacostia River Watershed. Projects should connect education and participation with measurable water-quality improvements or lasting changes in behavior. The partners encourage creative approaches and applications directly from, or engaging, communities underrepresented in environmental work.
