Description
The Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission (RIHPHC) administers Certified Local Government (CLG) Grants for municipal historic preservation work. The program helps communities identify, evaluate, and document significant historic and archaeological resources and plan for their preservation. Eligible work includes surveys, National Register of Historic Places nominations, preservation plans, and certain education activities.
The program also supports projects such as historic district commission training, interpretive materials, and resource-specific assessments or studies. Projects must follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation. RIHPHC’s 2026 instructions gave special consideration to projects addressing climate impacts, recognition of historically underrepresented communities, or accessibility; projects outside those priorities could still be funded.
