Description
The Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation (NREF), the philanthropic arm of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, supports specialized neurosurgical education through Clinical Fellowship Grants. The program provides funding for basic and clinical neuroscience within neurosurgical programs in North America, with an objective of funding post-residency clinical training. Applications for post-chief-year enfolded fellowships (PGY7) are also accepted.
For the 2027–2028 academic year, applications are accepted in all neurosurgical subspecialties. Previously supported areas include spine, cerebrovascular, cranial tumor, stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, and neuro-oncology. NREF works with AANS/CNS Section reviewers, subspecialty experts, and its Fellowship Committee, considering program eligibility and the needs of the requesting institution. Awards depend on available funding following application review.
