    Description

The Austrian Science Fund’s Clinical Research program funds clearly defined, innovative studies in human or veterinary medicine. Studies must involve human or animal patients, healthy test subjects, or animals and generate new clinical findings. The program supports researchers and clinicians conducting research independently of commercial interests, with the goal of improving clinical practice, therapy concepts, treatment methods, and diagnostic procedures.

Suitable work includes personalized medicine, proof-of-concept studies, new or modified therapies, diagnostic comparisons, disease mechanisms, new indications for approved drugs, and clinical-epidemiological or non-interventional research. Cooperation between clinicians and basic researchers is encouraged, particularly translational research with patient-oriented approaches. International, interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and preclinical approaches are also encouraged. Clinical relevance and research quality, including study design and statistical power, are essential; no further thematic requirements or quotas apply.
