Description
The Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) funds mentored clinical research and protected research time for early-career physician faculty developing independent clinician-scientist careers. The award supports clinicians building expertise in diagnosing, managing, or treating Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) while pursuing highly significant clinical or translational questions under an established FA expert’s mentorship.
Supported work includes patient-oriented research, natural history, epidemiologic and behavioral studies, clinical trials, disease mechanisms related to symptoms and progression, clinical outcome assessments, and biomarkers. Translational projects may develop treatments or improve diagnosis. Studies without human participants or human tissue may qualify when their primary goal is developing therapies, diagnostic tests, or tools to prevent or mitigate FA. Training and research leading to an MSCI, MPH, or equivalent degree are viewed favorably.
