Description
The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation’s Clinician-Scientist Fellowships help cultivate the next generation of veterinary researchers through mentored research connecting clinical practice with scientific discovery. The program supports veterinarians exploring critical health challenges faced by dogs and translating real-world clinical experience into research that can improve canine care.
Its goals include developing innovative treatments, preventive strategies, and diagnostic tools while strengthening the connection between veterinary practice and research. Supported projects include identifying genetic variants underlying inherited cerebellar ataxia in Lagotto Romagnolo dogs and developing canine CAR-T cells for solid cancers, including efforts to improve their function through CRISPR editing.
