Description
The Garden Club of America (GCA) supports graduate students pursuing coastal wetlands science through field-based research that promotes, expands, and enriches knowledge of the coast. The award covers tidal and nontidal wetlands within coastal states, including the Great Lakes. It is supported by the Rockefeller Environmental Education Fund, managed by the GCA.
Research review is overseen by a panel appointed by the Center for Coastal Resources Management at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), William & Mary Batten School of Coastal & Marine Science, with approval by the GCA Scholarship Committee. The award’s coastal wetlands focus dates to 1999, when the GCA Executive Board approved a sharper research emphasis for a fund originally established to support environmental education.
