The Coleopterists Society’s annual Graduate Student Research Enhancement Award (GSREA) supports research concerning beetles by graduate student members. Its two award types serve complementary purposes: the Program Award funds a significant portion of a student’s graduate research, while the Improvement Award helps complete a specific objective within that research.
Funding supports research activities, including expendable materials, analytical equipment time, and travel for fieldwork, offsite laboratory work, and museum collection visits. Past projects span taxonomic revisions, evolutionary relationships, local adaptation, beetle communities, defensive chemicals, sexual characters, colour patterns, and associated fungi and microbes. The program provides research funding only, rather than salary support for the applicant.
