    Forecasted

An anticipated NIH funding opportunity will support collaborative consortium research on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, including diagnosis, interventions, mechanisms, and prevention.

    Funder: National Institutes of Health

Due Dates (Anticipated): September 2027 (Estimated application deadline)

Funding Amounts: No cost sharing or matching required

Summary: Supports coordinated multidisciplinary research on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders through the Collaborative Initiative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders consortium.

Key Information: Projects are expected to integrate with the broader CIFASD consortium through shared resources and coordinated research activities.

    Description

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), part of the National Institutes of Health, anticipates a funding opportunity to continue the Collaborative Initiative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CIFASD). This multidisciplinary consortium supports coordinated basic, clinical, translational, diagnostic, intervention, and prevention research on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD)—lifelong physical, cognitive, and behavioral impairments associated with prenatal alcohol exposure.

The anticipated program will address high-priority needs in the FASD field: improved early identification and diagnosis, development and validation of interventions, mechanistic and translational studies of prenatal alcohol exposure and alcohol teratogenesis, and approaches to reduce prenatal alcohol exposure and FASD incidence. Projects are expected to bring multidisciplinary expertise and participate in shared resources and coordinated data and research activities. The opportunity uses the U19 mechanism, with clinical trials optional.
