Description
The Washington State Department of Ecology’s Office of Columbia River runs this grant through the Columbia River Water Management Program. Established in 2006, the program seeks to meet current and future water needs along the Columbia River and its tributaries while addressing water conflicts and strengthening security amid drought and a changing climate. The office develops projects with stakeholders and vets them with the Columbia River Policy Advisory Group.
Supported work includes finding water for pending water-right applications; developing municipal, domestic, industrial, and irrigation supplies; and producing water supply and demand reports. The program also supports groundwater alternatives for agricultural users in the Odessa Subarea, uninterruptible supplies for certain Columbia mainstem users whose rights are curtailed, and water for instream benefits when needed most.
