    Description

The Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. Scholars Program at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons supports early-career physician-scientists conducting novel translational research with the potential to improve human health. Established in 2008 through a gift from Louis V. Gerstner Jr., the program provides salary or laboratory support to help investigators advance their research and progress toward independent academic careers.

The program supports research across clinical specialties, with recent projects addressing treatment-resistant cancers, pediatric eosinophilic esophagitis, and kidney injury recovery. Scholars are expected to seek and obtain funding from NIH or other sponsors during their awards. A related Gerstner Merit Award recognizes a third-year scholar whose research shows exceptional promise and provides a fourth year of support.
