The Columbia Diabetes Research Center (DERC) offers Pilot and Feasibility grants for diabetes-related research at Columbia University. The program supports preliminary studies by young investigators without prior funding, innovative and high-risk projects by established diabetes investigators, and diabetes projects by established investigators whose previous funding has been outside the field. Preliminary studies are intended to lead to NIH, ADA, or JDFR grant applications.
DERC administers the program, coordinates peer review, monitors funded investigators’ productivity, and integrates supported research with its programmatic enrichment activities. Awards can cover salary support and research expenses. Projects are generally supported for one year, with a possible second year contingent on demonstrated progress and available funds.
