Common Security in a Diverging World (PROTECT) is run by the Strategic Research Council (SRC) within the Research Council of Finland. It supports multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research on the social, institutional and cultural mechanisms shaping psychological security and the population’s functional capacity. Projects should identify concrete ways to strengthen Finnish society’s ability to act amid change, threats and disruption.
Research may address belonging, community, trust, shared agency, democratic values, participation, culture and the arts, economic security or the information environment. Interaction with knowledge users and stakeholder cooperation must support societal impact throughout the project. The cross-cutting priority, “Data as power,” addresses data quality, representativeness, access, privacy and security, including the under-representation of socially vulnerable groups.
