Description
The National Communication Association’s Communication Elevation Grant supports research addressing urgent challenges related to academic freedom, censorship, and sociopolitical constraints on scholarship. It advances NCA’s mission to foster professional success in research, with priorities of scholarly excellence, protecting intellectual inquiry, strengthening member engagement, and enhancing the discipline’s public relevance.
Supported work explores communication’s relationship to identity and historically marginalized groups, dehumanization, freedom of speech, and threats to academic freedom. Projects may also examine authoritarianism and democratic backsliding, resistance to these forces, censorship and dissent, protest and activism, or broadly conceived taboo topics. Research seeking to globalize the study of Communication is also within scope.
