Communities Caring for Canopy provides seed funding to help Vermont communities develop and sustain urban and community forestry programs. Administered by the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program, the grant supports work in public ways and places and at public educational institutions. Applicants may combine multiple program components within a single project.
Supported activities include tree planting, nursery establishment, maintenance, inventories, plan development, and pest and disease preparedness. Funding also supports public outreach, staff or tree warden training, and broader program development. Removal of trees posing a public-safety risk in public ways and places is eligible when accompanied by replanting. The program’s goal is to advance urban and community trees and forests while helping communities sustain their forestry programs.
