Description
The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) offers Community Access Grants through its Transportation Economic Development Grants program. These state-funded grants help small communities pave or reconstruct important local roads, improving access to downtown areas, schools, hospitals, grain elevators, businesses, and other significant community destinations. Funding supports construction and reconstruction rather than routine maintenance.
The Office of Local Government Assistance ranks applications using criteria developed by SDDOT. Review considers road condition, traffic, the destinations served, coordination with water and sewer improvements, and effects on local businesses. The South Dakota Transportation Commission determines the program’s expenditure authority and approves all grants.
