Description
West Virginia’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program provides federal funding to eligible local governments through the West Virginia Department of Economic Development’s Community Advancement and Development office. Established under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, CDBG aims to develop sustainable communities with decent housing, suitable living environments, and expanded economic opportunities, principally for people with low to moderate incomes.
State planning documents identify basic infrastructure, public facilities, blighted and abandoned properties, and community planning among CDBG priorities. Examples include water, sewer and stormwater systems; parks and recreational facilities; and demolition or cleanup of blighted sites. The state’s consolidated and annual action plans provide the planning context for these investments.
