--- ## Description Community Grants from the Community Foundation of West Alabama are designed to support impactful charitable projects that address the most pressing needs in West Alabama communities. Funding priorities include arts and humanities, children and youth, education, elder care, environment, health and medicine, recreation, and social welfare. The Foundation seeks to fund projects that tackle root causes, foster collaboration, avoid duplication of existing services, and demonstrate measurable outcomes. Preference is given to pilot projects with the potential for expansion and to proposals that leverage partial funding rather than request full support. The grant review process includes an initial screening for completeness, a detailed evaluation by the Grant Review Committee, and final approval by the Board of Directors. --- ## Due Dates - April 1, 2026: Full application submission deadline (must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 1:00 PM) - November 1, 2026: Full application submission deadline (must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 1:00 PM) *All dates are projected based on the annual cycle; check the program page for updates.* --- ## Funding Amount - Grants up to $10,000 will be considered. - Awards are typically for one year. - The Foundation prefers to provide partial funding for projects rather than full support. --- ## Eligibility - Only 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are eligible. - Organizations must be located within the following West Alabama counties: - Bibb - Fayette - Greene - Hale - Pickens - Lamar - Marengo - Sumter - Tuscaloosa - Grants are **not** made to: - Individuals - Religious organizations for religious purposes - Dinners, balls, or other ticketed events - Political purposes or lobbying - Replacement of government grants/funding - Endowments or discretionary pools - Typically, grants are not made for: - Regular operating expenses (except for initial pilot projects) - Recurring program expenses - Ongoing support for fundraising organizations - Organizations that have received a grant should wait one year before submitting a new request. - Unsuccessful applicants should wait at least one year and only reapply if the request has changed. --- ## Application Process - Download and complete the [CFWA Grant Application Form](https://www.thecfwa.org/_files/ugd/644c2e_36160ee8b53c454bb77e8e46f9b80768.doc?dn=Grant_Application_Forms_for_Website_2026.doc). - Submit **three copies** of: - Cover letter (summarizing the project, anticipated benefits, and amount requested) - Completed application form - Additional supporting materials (see below) - Required attachments: - IRS tax determination letter - Most recent annual report - Project-specific budget and financial details - Applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered by 1:00 PM on the deadline date. - Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline may be held for the next review cycle. - Submit applications by mail or in person to: - Glenn Taylor, President/CEO - P.O.
