Community Heritage Preservation Grant Program supports Mississippi communities in repairing and interpreting landmark historic buildings to preserve their features, share state history, and sustain public use.

Summary: Grants support preservation and rehabilitation of Mississippi Landmark courthouses, schools, and other historic buildings in Certified Local Government communities.
Key Information: The property must already be designated a Mississippi Landmark when the applicant applies.
Description
The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) runs this program to preserve, restore, rehabilitate, repair, develop, and interpret historic buildings. Historic courthouses and school buildings are eligible statewide; other historic buildings may qualify in Certified Local Government (CLG) communities. Supported work includes repairs to historic building features and exhibits interpreting Mississippi history.
The program has operated since 2001 and has provided more than $61 million for 355 projects in 71 Mississippi counties. MDAH favors repair over replacement and gives particular consideration to endangered properties, urgent stabilization, public benefit, and a building’s long-term use.
