Description
NSF’s Community Infrastructure for Research in Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CIRC) program funds shared infrastructure supporting focused research agendas in the core disciplines of Computing and Communication Foundations, Computer and Network Systems, and Information and Intelligent Systems. Supported resources can include equipment, testbeds, software, and data repositories, together with integrated tools, user services, and research-community outreach.
The program supports community planning, validation of unproven infrastructure technologies, new infrastructure, and enhancement or sustainment of existing resources. Its goal is to enable research that cannot be accomplished with existing infrastructure while building diverse, engaged communities that help guide infrastructure development and management. CIRC emphasizes access for researchers across institutions, including minority-serving and predominantly undergraduate institutions and nonprofit, nonacademic organizations, and long-term sustainability through community involvement and leadership.
