Description
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service administers this annual program through its Solid Waste Management Outreach Program. It supports local governments implementing, expanding, or improving waste reduction and recycling services that divert materials from the waste stream or increase public awareness.
Projects may purchase recycling infrastructure, collection containers, vehicles, equipment, and educational materials. The 2026 priorities were new or expanded curbside recycling, including transitions to cart-based collection; household hazardous waste programs; and recycling of lithium-ion batteries, solar panels, or other electronics. Projects outside those priorities could seek Standard Project funding.
